Operations and Cost Control Manager

  • Location:Toronto, GTA  
    Type:Full-time, Permanent  
    Work Hours: 40 hours/week (flexible based on business needs, including cross-time zone coordination)                                     
  • Salary: 60,000-80,000 annually

 

Your Day to Day 

  • Support General Managers with day-to-day financial analysis related to operating expenses across the Seniors Home Division. 

  • Analyze operational cost structures across communities to understand cost drivers including labour, supplies, food services, maintenance, and other operating expenses. 

  • Develop and maintain expense tracking models to monitor cost performance against budget and operational benchmarks. 

  • Identify cost variances and provide clear analysis and recommendations to support effective expense management. 

  • Partner with Operations and Finance teams to review spending patterns and support initiatives focused on operational cost control. 

  • Assist in the preparation of operating budgets and forecasts with a primary focus on expense planning and cost containment. 

  • Develop reporting tools and dashboards that provide leadership with visibility into operational cost performance. 

  • Support month-end analysis of expenses, identifying trends, anomalies, and areas for potential cost efficiencies. 

  • Assist with the development of standardized cost benchmarks and performance metrics across multiple communities. 

  • Maintain financial documentation, cost models, and analysis to support internal decision-making and operational planning. 

  • Support data collection and operational analysis to assist leadership in evaluating cost efficiency and resource allocation. 

  • Collaborate with Finance and Operations teams to resolve discrepancies related to operational expenses and financial reporting. 

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements in financial reporting, cost tracking, and operational analysis. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support operational efficiency and financial discipline.

What You Bring to the Table 

  • Undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Commerce, or a related field. 

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in financial analysis, cost analysis, FP&A, or operational finance roles. 

  • Experience analyzing operating costs within multi-site service organizations, healthcare, senior living, hospitality, or similar industries is considered an asset. 

  • Strong understanding of operational cost structures and expense management. 

  • Ability to interpret financial and operational data to identify cost drivers and provide actionable insights. 

  • Experience supporting budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting processes. 

  • Ability to safeguard highly confidential information and demonstrate discretion, professionalism, and integrity. 

  • Flexibility to manage changing priorities and competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel including financial modeling, data analysis, and reporting. 

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate complex data into clear insights. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present financial information to non-finance stakeholders. 

  • Experience with ERP or financial systems such as Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365), Yardi, or similar platforms is considered an asset. 

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate, high-quality work under tight timelines. 

  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams including Finance, Operations, and senior leadership.
