The Receptionist serves as the welcoming face of the campus, ensuring a positive first impression for all visitors and students. This role involves managing front desk operations, answering inquiries, supporting campus staff, and maintaining a secure and organized environment. Position: Receptionist
Location: 1645 Pickering Pkwy, Pickering, ON L1V 6L3
Compensation: $17.20-$18/hr
Job Type: Part-time | Onsite | Weekends Required
Your Day to Day:
The Receptionist will at various times be responsible for the following as well as other related duties as assigned to support the business objectives and purpose of the College:
- Front Desk Management & Customer Service: Serve as the main point of contact at the campus by answering calls, greeting visitors, and ensuring a professional, welcoming atmosphere. Oversee security access and maintain the appearance of the reception area.
- Administrative Campus Support: Assist campus staff and instructors with daily tasks, coordinate campus events (e.g., Orientations), and maintain student databases for transcripts, attendance, and communication. Oversee entrance and make-up exams, and manage internal messaging.
- Document & Information Management: Maintain an organized filing system for easy document access, distribute campus information, and ensure requests and tasks are followed up on to meet deadlines.
- Supply & Equipment Management: Monitor and order office supplies, coordinate with external vendors for maintenance, and ensure campus equipment is functioning well.
- Professional Conduct & College Standards: Demonstrate professionalism and respect for students, staff, and college policies. Exhibit strong interpersonal skills and maintain a thorough knowledge of college procedures.
What You Bring to the Table:
To be successful in the Receptionist position, individuals must be committed to developing, maintaining and demonstrating the following:
- Education & Experience: High school diploma with basic training in office practices, customer service, and communication; 1-3 years of experience in a receptionist role or a similar combination of education and experience..
- Customer Service & Communication: Strong customer service skills, a professional attitude, and the ability to represent the College’s commitment to quality service.
- Technical Proficiency: Skilled in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and capable of operating office equipment such as fax and photocopy machines; proficient in keyboarding with a speed of 40 wpm and accuracy.
- Organizational Skills: Able to handle multiple tasks, manage priorities effectively, and complete work accurately and on time, even under pressure.
- Independent Work & Judgment: Capable of working independently with minimal supervision, demonstrating good judgment and the ability to stay calm and focused in busy situations.
Bonus Points For:
- Experience with Student Information Systems: Familiarity with campus or student database systems for managing records efficiently.
- Event Coordination Experience: Skills in organizing and coordinating campus or office events, enhancing campus community engagement.
