Early Childhood Education Instructor & Practicum Supervisor
Location: Edmonton, AB (Designated Campus & Field Sites)
Reports To: Campus Director
Pay Range: $27-$28/HR
Primary Purpose
The Early Childhood Education (ECE) Instructor is responsible for fostering academic excellence and professional growth in students. This role combines classroom instruction with field-based supervision to ensure students successfully transition from theory to practice within the ECE field.
General Description
Under the direction of the Campus Director, the Instructor delivers curriculum, mentors adult learners, and evaluates student performance both in the classroom and at practicum placement sites throughout the Edmonton area.
Specific Responsibilities

Instructional Delivery: Deliver high-quality instruction following the approved ECE curriculum; prepare engaging lectures and utilize diverse educational practices to support adult learners.

Practicum Supervision: Travel to various childcare centers and early learning sites to observe, mentor, and evaluate students during their practicum placements.

Student Assessment: Grade examinations, assignments, and field performance reports within five business days of completion; maintain accurate and timely attendance records.

Curriculum Maintenance: Ensure all academic tools, online course shells, and instructional materials are up to date and aligned with provincial ECE standards.

Communication: Act as the primary point of contact for practicum site partners; provide regular updates to the Campus Director regarding student progress or site-specific issues.

Professionalism: Model the ethical and professional standards of the ECE profession; participate in faculty meetings and orientation days.

Administrative Compliance: Complete all required documentation and filing in a timely manner according to college policy.
Qualifications & Competencies
Education and Experience:

Credential: A Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Early Childhood Education or a related field.

Certification: Must hold a valid ECE Level 3 (Child Development Supervisor) certification.

Teaching Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching adult learners or a recognized teaching certification.

Field Experience: Significant hands-on experience in childcare settings (daycares, preschools, or kindergartens).

Specialized Knowledge: Familiarity with inclusive practices and supporting children with diverse needs (e.g., PPD, ADHD).
Skills and Requirements:

Mobility: Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel to practicum sites across Edmonton.

Communication: Exceptional interpersonal and written communication skills; ability to act as a facilitator and mentor.

Adaptability: Ability to assess and respond to the unique needs of adult learners in a fast-paced environment.
