Your Role in a Snapshot:

The Accountant – Senior Living Operations supports the day-to-day financial activities of retirement residences and senior living communities. This role is responsible for managing operational accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, resident billing, reconciliations, and month-end support while working closely with residence operations teams. The position plays a key role in ensuring accurate financial records, timely processing of transactions, and strong communication between finance and on-site leadership. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, multi-residence environment with competing priorities.


Your Day to Day:

  • Manage daily accounting operations for senior living residences
  • Process accounts payable invoices and prepare payment runs
  • Monitor accounts receivable, resident billing, collections follow-up, and resident account inquiries
  • Maintain accurate resident accounts including move-ins, move-outs, and suite transfers
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations
  • Prepare and post journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation
  • Assist with month-end close and account reconciliation activities
  • Coordinate with residence General Managers and operations teams regarding occupancy changes, resident charges, vendor invoices, and operational expenses
  • Monitor outstanding balances and follow up on overdue resident accounts
  • Support deposit tracking, cheque processing, and payment administration
  • Ensure accurate coding and allocation of invoices and expenses
  • Maintain vendor records and support invoice processing accuracy
  • Assist with year-end audit requests and preparation of working papers
  • Utilize Yardi Voyager for AP, AR, resident billing, reconciliations, and financial reporting
  • Identify and escalate discrepancies or operational issues in a timely manner
  • Support continuous improvement of accounting processes and workflows
  • Assist with ad hoc accounting and operational projects as required

What You Bring to the Table:

  • 2+ years of accounting or bookkeeping experience
  • Experience in senior living, retirement residences, healthcare, long-term care, or property management is strongly preferred
  • Experience with resident billing and operational accounting is an asset
  • Hands-on experience with Yardi Voyager is strongly preferred
  • Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
  • Strong understanding of AP, AR, reconciliations, and core accounting processes
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems
  • Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • Excellent communication and follow-up skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with operational teams
  • Strong customer service mindset when dealing with residents and families
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Professional, dependable, and team-oriented approach
  • Strong problem-solving and time management abilities
