Position: Purchaser / Procurement Manager
Reports to: Vice President, Strategy & Bussinus Development
Job Status: Full Time
Location: Head Office - New Westminster, BC.
Start Date: Immediately
Salary: $60,000 Annually
Your Day to Day:
The Purchaser will be responsible for the following as well as other related duties as assigned to support business objectives:
- Liaise with various regional operations and departments to determine the needs and evaluate requests for acquisitions
- Work with regional operations and departments to determine needs and provide alternative solutions to problems
- Team with internal clients to develop project procurement strategies
- Recommend the most cost-effective method of acquisition
- Conduct research to ascertain the best products and vendors in terms of best value, delivery schedules and quality
- Identify and analyze preferred vendors and contract terms, offer recommendations to the senior management team, negotiate the best value deals and execute the contract
- Conduct and evaluate formal bids and obtain comparative quotes from several sources for purchase requirements and sales pursuit proposals
- Prepare requests for proposals, purchase orders and amendments to purchase orders
- Negotiate contract terms and conditions, amendments and payments
- Maintain relationships with suppliers, relevant internal departments and customers
- Act as a resource on procurement related matters such as expediting and distributing orders, arranging shipments, managing vendor issues and defective or unacceptable goods or services, advising on adjusted lead-times, and finalizing payment terms
- Develop purchasing policies, procedures and strategies, and oversee the purchasing department budget
- Produce purchasing reports and statistics
- Records management including vendor files and contracts
What you Bring to the Table:
- Diploma in Management, purchasing, business or other related field
- 6 years related experience in a large national organization
- Supply Chain Management (SCMP) designation
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Understanding of procurement responsibilities, purchasing methods, procedures and principles
- Knowledge of Great Plains would be an asset
- Knowledge of IT and related technologies procurement would be an asset

- Ability to exercise considerable independence of action and judgement in all aspects of purchasing, and a high degree of accountability
- Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills
- Strong business relationship management skills, with the ability to maintain effective communications between departments, campuses, and vendors
- Ability to represent the organization effectively in dealings with suppliers
- Advanced oral and written communication skills, including business report writing and presentation skills
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments in a fast-paced environment, and to react positively and timely to ad hoc requests
- Flexible and adaptable to changing job conditions
- Strong skills in working with numbers and detail orientated
- Ability to operate pertinent software applications to streamline the purchasing process
- Ability to exhibit a professional attitude and image with a commitment to quality service
- Thorough knowledge of MS Office Suite
