  • Position: Pharmacy Technician (Part-Time / Casual)
    Reports to: Pharmacy Manager
    Salary: $22 - 32
    Schedule: Monday to Thursday 8:30am to 4:30pm
  • Location: 102-245 E Columbia Street, New Westminster, BC V3L 3W4

Role Overview:

The Pharmacy Technician plays a vital role in supporting pharmacists in the preparation, verification, and dispensing of medications while ensuring compliance with all applicable provincial regulations and professional standards. As a regulated healthcare professional, the Pharmacy Technician is responsible for accurate prescription processing, medication preparation, inventory management, and supporting safe and effective patient care.


Your Day-to-Day:

  • Receive and process prescriptions from patients, prescribers, and healthcare facilities in accordance with provincial legislation
  • Verify prescription information for completeness and accuracy, including:
    • Patient demographics, allergies, and clinical details
    • Prescriber information
    • Drug name, strength, dosage form, and directions
    • Third-party insurance details
    • Special instructions and refill authorization
  • Perform technical functions related to prescription processing:
    • Data entry and patient profile maintenance
    • Medication preparation and dispensing
    • Pharmaceutical calculations
    • Third-party billing adjudication
    • Prescription labeling and documentation
    • Refill and transfer processing (as authorized)
  • Conduct final technical checks in accordance with scope of practice and regulatory standards (where permitted)
  • Prepare, package, and compound medications under pharmacist supervision
  • Assist pharmacists with medication reconciliation and patient support activities
  • Provide guidance on medication devices and non-clinical products (as authorized)
  • Maintain accurate records for medications, narcotics, and controlled substances
  • Monitor inventory, order supplies, receive shipments, and remove expired or recalled products
  • Ensure proper storage, handling, and security of medications
  • Support quality assurance, safety initiatives, and regulatory compliance
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe dispensary environment
  • Assist in training pharmacy assistants, students, or new staff
  • Support workflow optimization and general pharmacy operations

What You Bring:

Education & Experience:

  • Completion of an accredited Pharmacy Technician program
  • Current registration in good standing with the provincial College of Pharmacists
  • Successful completion of the PEBC Pharmacy Technician Qualifying Examination
  • 1–2 years of pharmacy experience (community or hospital preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of pharmacy legislation and standards of practice

  • Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication skills with patients and healthcare professionals
  • Proficiency with pharmacy systems, EHR platforms, and Microsoft Office
  • Solid understanding of pharmaceutical terminology and dispensing procedures

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a healthcare team
