We are specifically seeking a Fashion History Instructor. This opportunity includes teaching additional classes in Fashion Design or Marketing and Merchandising for Fashion for the right candidate.

Position Details

· Reporting to: National Academic Director

· Hours: Ongoing Part-Time

· Location: Remote (VCAD Online)

· Pay: $35 to $45 per hour

Responsibilities

As an instructor, you will:

· Deliver instruction aligned with course objectives and program goals.

· Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently.

· Guide students through engaging learning activities, including historical fashion analysis, critical discussions, and creative projects.

· Support academic administrative functions in relation to the course and program.

· Participate in College and program activities.

· Monitor and review students’ progress, providing constructive feedback.

Qualifications

What You Bring to the Table:

· Degree or diploma from a recognized University or College in a relevant discipline

· Three or more years of experience in the fashion industry.

· One year of instructional experience or equivalent preferred

Nice to Have:

· Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or other design software.

- Proficiency in traditional and digital illustration techniques.

- Advanced skills in drawing croquis, rendering textures, and creating digital fashion illustrations.

· Strong interest in teaching historical and contemporary topics in fashion.

· Advanced oral and written communication skills, including group facilitation and presentation abilities.

· Passion for inspiring students and fostering creativity.

· Commitment to high standards of professional behavior and quality service.

· Collaboration skills to work effectively with other instructors and staff.

As part of the Fashion History course, you’ll cover topics such as:

· The origins of fashion, from the Paleolithic era to the Late Middle Ages.

· Fashion’s evolution during the Renaissance, Baroque, and Rococo periods.

· Revolutionary figures like Coco Chanel, Alexander McQueen, and Christian Dior.

· Fashion as a cultural, political, and gender expression tool.

· The rise of haute couture and its impact on contemporary design.

· Globalization, sustainability, and the future of fashion.

Fashion History Course Overview

Summary: A captivating 12-week exploration of fashion’s evolution, from the opulent courts of Europe to the revolutionary designs of Coco Chanel and Alexander McQueen. Students will analyze fashion’s role in culture, politics, and society while drawing inspiration for modern design. Topics include haute couture, gender identity in fashion, globalization, and sustainability.

 

Fashion Illustration Highlights

As part of the Fashion Illustration course, you’ll cover topics such as:

· Hand-rendered techniques using mixed media such as graphite, markers, and watercolor.

· Drawing male and female croquis with accurate proportions and dynamic poses.

· Rendering garment details, draping, and fabric textures like denim, leather, and fur.

· Exploring collage and flat color techniques for unique fashion concepts.

· Transitioning hand-drawn work to digital formats and applying advanced digital tools.

· Completing a comprehensive final project: a Mini Collection of original designs.

Fashion Illustration Course Overview

Summary: An engaging 12-week course teaching the fundamental skills to create professional hand-rendered and digital fashion illustrations. Students explore mixed media, drawing techniques, and design concepts while developing their signature illustration style. Key topics include rendering fashion figures, garment details, fabric textures, shading, and transitioning from traditional to digital formats.
